It’s been six years since I have been on birth control of any kind, and although it’s not a bad thing, there are two really good reasons I should go back on it. 1) I’m extemely fertile (not bragging, it’s my own personal curse) and 2) I really hate having heavy periods because the cramps are fucking insane sometimes. And I don’t know if it’ll help with this, but my breasts get really sore and they hurt like hell if I accidentally squish them, someone hits them or if I lay on my stomach. Seriously hoping the BC makes that stop… *cries*
My mom has been pushing me to get that little tube they stick in your arm, so when I went to my gyno appointment last month I decided to check it out. I guess it wouldn’t be to bad considering I’m really lazy about taking medicine unless it’s absolutely needed. But have you seen these things?!

There is no way in hell I’m sticking a straw into my arm. The pictures of them taking them out was equally disturbing, possibly more. I won’t show you those though. Very gross.
And then there is the patch. While good for the lazy and/or forgetful or just… I don’t know… I’ve heard to many bad things about them. My sister used them and had a lot of skin problems when she was. If I remember right she said she felt like it was cutting into her. Dealing with my eczema is enough thanks.
So I went back on the pill. The hubby has vowed to remind me nightly to take it. Yay! The only thing I’m hating about it now is, I think it’s been so long that at the moment, while it’s doing it’s job, I feel like I’m on my period and I have some crampage and it’s not making me a very happy panda. Couple that with insane seasonal allergies… I just wanna fucking die. Right now.

I use the Depo Provera shot – once every 3 months (in your upper shoulder) and it stops periods or makes them very light and short.
I can’t swallow pills of any size, so the shot was my best bet. I’ve been on it (on and off) since 2006.

I was also thinking of the shot, but my sister (again) was on that and gained weight like… insanely. So I was like uh.. no! And I hate shots. I cry like a baby even before they stick me with it
I just got Mirena put in on Monday and it was easy! It’s the most wonderful thing ever

I FEEL for you… I hate all things medical unless I really need it so I’d opt for the pill too. Got my tubes tied when my daughter was born so thankfully it’s no longer an issue for me.
Would you be open to trying something else? We completed an elimination diet through a wonderful nutritionist (phone consults) a couple yrs ago and found food sensitivities as we had started to suspect. I can give you more detail if you’re interested, but symptoms we were experiencing drastically improved, some vanished.
From what I understand, they can cause hormone problems to be triggered or much worse. Just let me know… and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I have had a Mirena for three years now … and at first it was great… now I’m seriously considering going back on the pill… I just haven’t been feeling right.

I don’t like needles so I can’t imagine inserting a “straw” into my arm. ::cringes:: I’ll stick with my pills.

I was on the Pill for a very long time. Periods fabulous, skin fabulous…hormones out of control and sex drive through the floor. Next I tried the IUD (copper, not the Mirena). Worst thing ever. I literally felt like I might bleed to death and the cramps! Just my little rant.
I hope that you can find some alternative that works for you and your hubs soon. I like The Lucky Wife’s suggestion. A holistic approach might be best.
I had the Mirena IUD put in right after I had my son. I had it in for a few months shy of 3 years, when we decided to have it taken it out to try for another little one. I loved having it though. I think I had maybe 3 periods while it was in…maybe?? Can’t remember, but I know it was not much. I will definitely be getting it again after we have this one. I love it can last up to 5 years! But you can get it out anytime. My doc said I should wait about 3 months before trying to get pregnant. And I have read on their site that you can try right away. It took me a year though; maybe that is just me though! Good luck with whatever you decide!
I hear ya, after 3 kids the last thing I need is to have another and I too am a fertile one. I for now am doing the pill thing but am thinking of sniping the tubes
I have had the Mirena for about 4 years and I have been okay with it. For me it is a lot better than taking pills because I am very forgetful and would not want to have an unwanted pregnancy so for me mirena was the best choice.
I’m sure I’m going to get some flack for this one, but my husband and use the withdrawal method and it works. It’s not everybody’s thing (nor do many want to take the risk, which I get) but we haven’t had a problem in over seven years. The reason we started doing this is because I was on the patch and then I got a little too heavy for it and I hated how it made my skin itch. Next, I tried different types of low dose pills and they all made me gain so much weight and feel like a bloated cow all day. Finally I tried to get an IUD but I freaked out in the doc’s office. I decided that all things foreign my body was rso I decided to go without them all. It was a wild and risky decision but I must go on record saying that it most certainly has worked. We don’t yet have any kids and we’re hoping that when we want to it will be as simple as “letting go” if you know what I mean.

I know how you feel. That’s what we do now. We’ve also tried rubbers but they give me UTI’s and I get them enough as it is without the help of uh… plastic. So yea. But it’s kinda getting old and the clean up sucks so that’s another reason I went with the pill
I’ve been on the pill forever…my best trick for remembering it is that I have an alarm on my iPhone that reminds me every day

I feel your pain. I had terrible side effects from the pill and would never go back to using them.

The Pill really didn’t agree with me. I was on it for about a year and then we both agreed I should come off it. We’re fine with condoms. I know most people hate them but we’re fine with them. Post-baby (planned baby not a condom accident lol!) I might try The Pill again but… I’m wary…

DON’T get the Mirena!!! I did after our 3rd baby, then I was having weird periods and bleeding more than normal, finally a year later I got it out, I just had the feeling that something was wrong. My doc couldn’t find it to pull it out, so I had to do a DNC to get it out ( a 10 min. procedure) I woke up 3 hours later and they had to do laparoscopic surgery to remove it!!! It grew thru my uterus and was stuck in my abdominal wall. YUCK! So it can happen and I’ve met 5 other women that had to have DNC’s to get them out because the string was too short or missing.
I have been looking for new birth control options too. I have been on seasonique for the past couple of years and it is no longer working for me. You’re supposed to have a period every three months but lately I’ve been having break through bleeding. I might as well have a period! Which pill are you on now? There are so many options but the pill seems like less of a hassle.

I’m on Sprintec right now. I used to be on Orthotricyclin (sp?) but I was taking that when I got pregnant so I don’t think it was working for me anymore
I loved the IUD. Couldn’t feel it at all and had no periods.
