So Very Me

Blogging Tips V.3

So, I haven’t enamored you with my bloggy wisdom in a while, and I thought it was about time I did so once again! ;) This time around though I’m going to be a little more helpful to you ’cause I know you all think I’m some evil bitch trying to dominate and force my (apparently high) standards on you, the readers & visitors of this website. That’s not true at all. But seriously people, remember how the blog world used to be?! Exactly…

So! On with the show!

  1. Kay, so… sponsored posts. We do them, we get paid, it’s awesome. But people hate seeing them. Thanks to the lovely Jenny, I have found a way to hide paid posts. You can do the same to your feed.
Don’t do this if the advertiser absolutely wants it on the main page.
  2. Let’s talk about comments. We love getting them on our bloggy’s. But there is a certain way to do it. Momcomm will teach you how not to leave comments. Remember blog rule #14!!
  3. If you really want traffic to your blog/site, learn how to whore out your posts. Spend some time doing this. There’s many ways to go about it. From social media to blog hops. You might make a new friend or two!
  4. Take some time to learn your blogging platform and how to make the most of it. Look up some resources if you have to, it’ll help you in the long run.

I admit this is mostly aimed at WordPress users, but it can (and really does) apply to everyone. So that’s my sharing time for this week. I hope I was at least some what helpful even though you’ve prolly heard it all before. ;)

  3. Interesting advice; I’ve done a post today about leaving comments and how important they are on a blog. There is definitely a right and a wrong way to comment and I’ve experienced both, but just to say something, in my opinion, it common courtesy.

Right now I’m concentrating on #2 and #3. Learning about commenting (and trying to do it right!) and how to “whore out my posts” (love how you put that!)
I haven’t checked into sponsored posts yet – so much to learn to becoming a better blogger!

YOu know, the comment one is especially big for me…because really, don’t visit my site and just say “great site! come visit!” Because I probably wont’! i think of blogging like making friends..why do I want to talk to someone who can’t say anything interesting to me? OK…educate me. Paid posts? I am just approaching my 1 year anniversary blogging and I am clueless. Tell me how I would do this and (probably obvious) why? Income stream, right? So, how? Thanks for helping me taking my blogging up a notch!

After not having some of my comments approved, I went back to the golden rule of the internet – content is king – so if the comment is off topic or just superfluous, it is likely to be rejected and justifiably so.
There is just so much ‘verbal noise’ online and we all share responsibility to be meaningful and relevant as a priority.
Finally, sharing courtesy tips, advice and style guides for new users is never inappropriate, and appreciated by all.
